CDOT Concrete

The concrete for the CDOT Gazflex Exploder foundations was flown out to the construction site located at the top of the Big Slide avalanche path. CDOT was able to utilize the same helicopter that is being used for tree removal at Monarch.  Around thirty individual trips were made from the Monarch parking lot carrying 1/3 yard of concrete each time. The crew built the forms over the summer months drilling bolts deep into the bedrock before adding the custom wooden forms and rebar cage. The concrete must now cure and be tested prior to installing the exploders later this fall.
