Hope this finds you all doing well. Monarch Mountain is dedicating this season to the growth of the Monarch Butterfly population. The Monarch butterfly has been identified as a creature closing in on extinction. Although that may be a bit of an over estimation, it has been noted that the overall population of Monarch butterflies has been decreasing due to the ever-decreasing existence of the Milkweed plant. Without the milkweed plant the butterfly cannot reproduce. There are a variety of reasons for the demise of milkweed but one way we can help is by simply planting more milkweed seeds. We are working with GARNA to supply free milkweed seeds to anyone who wants them. At Monarch all one has to do is ask for seeds and we’ll supply them to you. Easy Peasy.
Many of you reading this now are one of our season pass holders. We consider you to be one of our butterflies and I’d like to let you know that it is time to migrate back to the slopes. We will be opening tomorrow, Thursday, December 1, at 9am. We are super stoked to show you the improvements we made on the mountain and around the base area. You will love the new and improved Rental Shop and Elation Sports. The Sidewinder Saloon is back in full force with a new menu we all just tasted yesterday. Absolutely fantastic. The Sidewinder is still the best in the industry. The Children center is making a comeback after two years of being offline. The mountain has continued to expand its skiable terrain with more tree extraction from tree islands and trimming some of the lower hanging limbs.
This season we are also celebrating artistry. In conjunction with the Salida Arts Council we are displaying snowboards reimagined by our local artists. They will remain on display throughout the season and are available for sale. Check them out on the Cafeteria level. Full disclosure … I loved one so much I already purchased it.
Lastly, as you have already heard, we have purchased the Monarch Crest and Scenic Tramway. We see this as a natural extension of what we already do and are excited to get in there and reimagine the space to better fit our overall brand. Monarch Mountain at the Crest will remain closed for the winter and reopen in May of 2023. The remodel will include a visitor/welcome center vibe upon entering and spill over to an enhanced Elation Sports that will provide many of the items you all are accustomed to as well as more for summer recreating. We are also introducing a restaurant experience so one can enjoy views of the Continental Divide and Monarch Mountain while enjoying a hamburger, fries and a shake.
Starting today (Wednesday) at 11am the Crest will be open through Saturday for a blow out inventory reduction sale. Please come and check it out.
See you on the slopes.
