Enjoy!
With all of our lift-served terrain now open, Ski Patrol and the MCS guides have been honing in on Mirkwood. Getting this terrain open is not as simple as just dropping the rope. The crew conducts extensive avalanche mitigation and prep work on this section of the mountain. These efforts includes disruption roller work, explosives, ski cutting, ski packing and…
What a storm cycle. We received 65″ of snow over a 10-day stretch with over 4″ of SWE. The mountain has been transformed from where we were at just before Christmas. Bare slopes are covered, thin and punchy areas now have a solid base, and our lift served terrain is open wall to wall. While a significant storm cycle was…
It seemed like winter would never show up in late November and early December. However, there is no doubt that it has now arrived. This week has been something special and it’s not over yet. The skiing/riding conditions right now are prime mid-winter stuff. Pretty amazing considering where we were at a week ago. While all of this new snow…
This is good. We are getting snow every day right now. It came down steady all day and things look to ramp up overnight. It’s been a few seasons since we have seen this type of consistent storm snow day after day. The mountain has really transformed over the last week. It’a an interesting time to see this type of…
What a gift. We had all of our aerial lifts open for Christmas Day including the season opener on Breezeway. The skies were blue, the air was crisp but pleasant and the snow was amazing. Huge thanks to our Mtn Ops team for coming through on a special day!
Here is a look at snowfall totals by 4pm on Christmas Day. Looks like we are going to get what we asked for!
The disruption roller was out on Mirkwood Bowl and Orcs today. This unit disrupts shear plane layers within the snow and creates bonding between individual snow grains. These snowpack elements, if left undisturbed, could contribute to a future avalanche. The machine breaks down these weak layers helping to create a more unified basal snowpack structure. Additionally, the roller roughs up…
The Tumbelina Lift (or Tumbo as we know it) opened today. As described in an earlier post, the Tumbelina Lift received a major upgrade this summer. A huge shout-out to our Lift Maintenance staff for pulling this project off in collaboration with the crew over at Skytrac Lifts. While getting the Tumbelina Lift does not necessarily open any additional terrain…
Our talented operators and guides have started the process of pushing out into our cat skiing terrain. They have established our over the snow roads up to the top of Mirkwood, out to Elation and across the Waterdog Ridge. The operators will continue to push roads and conduct roller operations along the Divide. The guides are beginning the process of…
