A Little Restraint

As part of our upgrade to the Tumbelina Lift, we have added restraint bars to all 58 of the lift carriers. This will be the second lift at Monarch offering this feature (the Pioneer Lift is the other). This retrofit really made a lot of sense for this lift as part of our project. The natural progression at Monarch for…

Next Storm

We’ve been checking the horizon every day for our next storm. While we have seen around two feet of snow thus far, it has been spread out over the last six weeks. Most of the mountain is still covered in a blanket of snow. So, we at least have some ground cover that is reflecting the sun and starting to…

First Tour

I finally was able to get out for a few ski tours this week. While the mountain is mostly covered, things are still a bit thin out there. The north and east slopes are holding snow pretty well while the other aspects are still picking up some afternoon sun. Was still great to get out of the base area and…

Prescribed Burning

With recent timber projects at Monarch and elsewhere on the San Isabel National Forest, there have been several burn operations here locally. While Monarch is only burning some smaller slash piles in the Paradise lot, the USFS has several larger burn projects on the forest. The Mount Shavano Prescribed Fire project includes burning 434 acres five to seven miles west-northwest…

Whatever it takes to get there. Stay tuned.

Halloween Tally

It’s the end of October. We saw a fair amount of snow fall over the course of the month with 18″ YTD. The storms were a bit spread out over the entire month with some wild swings in temperature. As a result, the north facing slopes held on to some of this while the south facing ones saw it come…

Snow & Glades

Another nice October storm rolled through over the last 24 hours. This one really helped to show the thinning work completed adjacent to the “Uppers” ski trails. The glades adjacent to Upper Christmas Tree, Upper No Name, Lobo, Kanonen, etc. are looking pretty sweet with some snow on the slopes. Can’t wait to ski these glades!

Uphill Pass

Over the last few seasons, we have seen a significant increase in uphill travel here at the ski area. For many, it is more about the up than the down! With this in mind, we have made some updates to our uphill policy this year. To start with, it will be an Uphill Pass instead of an Uphill Access paper…

More Heli Work

We had another small round of Helicopter work today up here on the mountain. Xcel Energy contracted with a crew to fly in a replacement pole for the Whitepine power line. This line crosses US 50 near the Waterdog Lakes Trailhead. It then travels up the Waterdog drainage and over the Continental Divide near the summit of No Name Peak.…
