We were anticipating some high winds today and were aware of the potential for a disruption in our operations. When our Mtn Ops team arrived early in the morning, it was windy but there was still the potential to operate a few of our more protected lifts. Between 8am and 9am the winds really started to ramp up and the decision to not operate lifts for the day was clear. The data from our weather station at the top of Mirkwood is shown here.
Wind closures are a combination of data points that include wind speeds, duration, direction, and the effect it has on the lift itself. We usually see a day or two per season where we may experience this kind of extreme wind event that impacts our ability to operate all aerial lifts. The forecast looks like there could be some additional wind tomorrow but nothing like what we experienced this morning. The good news is that this wind is also bringing some snow!
