Monarch Moose

We had a big fella stroll through this week.  Colorado is home to over 3,000 moose with most of these animals found in the northern Colorado Rockies.  The type of moose most commonly found in our state is the “Shiras Moose”, which is the smallest of the North American moose subspecies.  However, the largest bulls can still grow up to 9 1/2 feet long, six feet tall at the shoulders, and can weigh up to 1,600 pounds.  Their racks alone can weigh up to 50 pounds. Moose are mostly found traveling as singles instead of in groups.  I guess in a couple of months this guy will be thinking, “No friends on a powder day”.
