NNB & Mirk

With Breezeway open, we now turn our attention to the next pieces of terrain…No Name Basin and Mirkwood.  Having the Breezeway Lift access and the top Patrol duty station staffed every day definitely makes this a convenient launching point for getting into these next areas to work.

We have been track packing, dozing snow, ski-cutting, and stepping areas in No Name Basin.  The new Tomichi lift is working perfectly and we are making the initial first steps onto the western side of the Divide.  We definitely still need additional snowfall to provide coverage for thin areas, to create snow piles along our fences for cats to push out, and to help fill in the creeks and other low spots.

Our Cat Skiing crew has been building out the network of over the snow roads up to the summit of Mirkwood and beyond.  The work by our snowcat operators is progressing nicely and we now have solid access along the ridge and down to several of our pick-up locations at the bottom.  Our guides have conducted the initial round of avalanche mitigation with explosives and are leading a crew of ski-packers into Mirkwood Basin today.

Other ski areas may be struggling to open their mountains, but we are about where we typically are for terrain openings in mid-December.

Stay positive and stay tuned.  Most of all, think snow!
