Rope’s Up!

I posted here a few weeks ago about the haul rope for the new Tomichi Lift.  The crew from Skytrac and our Lift Maintenance department worked hard this weekend to get the rope up and on the towers!  They first used a pilot line which is a smaller diameter cable.  The crew climbs each tower getting the pilot line up and on the sheave wheels.  The larger diameter haul rope is then connected to one end of the pilot line and hauled up using a mechanical winch.  The haul rope is pulled up and around the top bullwheel before returning to the bottom terminal to complete its journey on the lift.  Tension is then put on the rope using heavy machinery before the haul rope is tagged off/anchored in place.  The comm line and a fiber optic run have also recently been affixed to the tower heads.  Next up is the rope splice which is scheduled for next week.  It’s really starting to look like a lift now!
