Snow Farm

The Mtn Ops team has been out setting up the snow farm.  We are one of the last ski areas in Colorado that doesn’t rely on artificial snowmaking in our operation. We understand that while waiting for Mother Nature to deliver can take a little patience, there is nothing better than making turns on real snow.  We utilize several strategies in capturing as much snow as we can when the flakes are flying.  One tactic is to deploy temporary snowfences that work to collect snow with each passing storm.  As winds pass over the windward side of the fence, the wind and snow flakes decelerate leaving piles of snow on the leeward side of the fence. Our cat operators can then push these piles around to nearby areas that may need a bit more coverage.  With snow and wind in the forecast for Sunday and Monday, our snow farmers have the fences up and are ready for the snow to pile up.
