Splice Day

Knight Equipment was on site today to take the lead on the rope splice.  This process brings the two ends of the haul rope together into one solid unit.  I posted earlier this summer on the arrival of our haul rope and described how the rope is actually made up of several different strands and individual cables.  The rope splice is a very complicated process as each strand is separated at different lengths and then is rewoven back into the rope. Watching these pros work their magic never ceases to amaze.  The rope splice also takes a lot of extra hands and the entire Mtn Ops team was there to pitch in.  The rope is now fully intact, placed on all sheave wheels and wrapped around both the top and bottom bullwheels.  The next steps are to power up the lift, conduct some alignment work, tension the rope, and hang carriers on the line.
