Snow is in the forecast and we’re anticipating that it will enable us to open Monarch for skiing and riding this week.  With this in mind, we are closing uphill access effective at 12pm today (Sunday-November 30th).

Due to safety concerns and our need to keep crews focused on opening tasks, all permitted slopes at the ski area will be closed to uphill use until opening. Our goal is to work as hard as we can to get the mountain open as soon, and as safely as possible.

“But it’s my National Forest.” Yes, Monarch operates entirely on National Forest lands. However, we are allowed to manage uphill travel (and other policies) through our USFS special use permit and our annual operating plan. This includes the ability to close the mountain to uphill access. We strongly support uphill travel and have a very positive uphill policy. Please support us in our effort to get the mountain open by avoiding the area until we do. We will reopen uphill access after the ski area has opened.

Once we open for the season, Uphill Access will ONLY be during operating hours and after operating hours.  There will be no early morning (6am-9am) Uphill Access until we open the Breezeway terrain and the Little Mo Uphill Route.  Please remember once we do reopen for uphill use, ALL uphill users must have an uphill pass (including season pass holders).
