While the bird was on site, we took advantage in flying out some timber from one of the NNB trail corridors. These trees were located in a wetland area on the lower reaches of the “Ambush” ski trail. We worked to minimize impact to this area by cutting trees in March, skidding what we could with snowcats over snow, and then using aerial ops for removal of the remaining trees. Many of the trees in No Name Basin have unfortunately been affected by the Spruce Beetle outbreak that we have been dealing with for many years on the front side of the mountain. Adding ski area operations on this side of the Divide will ultimately give us the opportunity to improve forest health in remaining tree stands, open up habitat, improve defensible space, and provide a fire break for the ski area on the western side of the Continental Divide.
