6:04pm MST today marks the Autumnal Equinox which is when the sun is directly over the equator, marking the official start of Fall in the Northern Hemisphere.  The Royal Observatory of Greenwich website has an interesting video where at the beginning they discuss the equinox and how the refraction of the atmosphere causes differences in the equinox (equal day/night at the equator) and equilux (equal day/night at your specific location) which for Monarch is September 26th.  Anyway, now that I have gone down my nerd wormhole, back to all the excitement that fall brings.  Frost has been present on the ground in the mornings, the aspens are spectacular, moisture is in the air, and it is feeling more and more like we could get some snow any day.  If you have a chance to get up to the mountains this weekend you will catch some peak foliage.  Monarch Pass is incredible right now so come on up for a drive and stop in and say hi up at the Crest.
