While waiting for the next round of snow, we have had some amazing bluebird days around the Christmas holiday. Warm temps with light winds have delivered great weather for a Mirkwood hike.
In addition to hikers, we also have snowcats and snowmobiles sharing this over the snow road. We ask that all uphill traffic stay on the right side of the road to leave the rest of it for machines to safely travel on. Please stay to the right of the orange danger dots. Not only is it safer for foot traffic, but if we all help establish a solid boot-pack, it makes the walk up that much easier.
Trying to kick a step into the snowcat road with a soft and comfy snowboard boot (or a rigid ski boot for that matter) instead of just placing it into the boot-pack are two totally different experiences. Kick, step, repeat.
