Yesterday Knight Equipment was on site with our Lift Maintenance and Patrol crews to splice the Breezeway haul rope.  Splicing a haul rope is a fascinating process that unravels the 6 individual strands (3 in each direction), pulls them back together at the marriage, re-wraps them around the core, before the final step of tucking the tails back into the center of the rope to make a seamless single cable.  The last time the Breezeway haul rope was spliced was in 2014 when the original bottom drive terminal was replaced with a Skyrtac Monarch drive terminal 100′ uphill of the original location.  As is normal with lifts, the haul rope has stretched slightly over the past 12 years so it was time shorten the rope.  This allows the bottom carriage house plenty of room to move which maintains proper tension under a full or light load.  If you want to dive deeper into haul rope splicing check out Scott’s blog posts from our last 2 splices on Garfield and Tomichi.  Breezeway rides will be just a little bit shorter so you can get to the top a split second faster!
