Another one in the books. All in all it turned out to be a good season. The weather didn’t cooperate at the start of the season and we missed our anticipated opening for Thanksgiving. It was the 15th time that has happened in the 54 years of records that I have access to. (Not sure where the old snow records…
We had staff members from multiple Mountain Operations departments out on the snowcat today. It was really nice to get some of our hard-working crew out there for a day of skiing & riding. The team enjoyed making turns through cold & soft powder in mid-April! Tomorrow we will do the same thing as we host employees from the Guest…
Our cat skiing terrain dishes out some extremes. There are several steep chutes and cliff lines on the east side of the divide above the Waterdog Lakes. We also have a very prominent cliff band on the western flank of No Name Bowl. This rock formation breaks through in the ski area as well in several areas including near Christmas…
I made my annual pilgrimage up to one of our regular season pass partners this week. Copper Mountain has been on our exchange program for many years with 3 free days with your Monarch Season Pass. We have 10 days left here at Monarch for the season! After that, you can ski Copper until April 24th and several other partners…
We hit another milestone today. Twenty feet of measurable snowfall. There is really good coverage just about everywhere on the mountain. It looks like we will see some significant wind tomorrow. Hopefully this doesn’t change our coverage situation. Hang on to your hats.
A change in the weather is on the way. Snow and colder temps arrive tonight and look to stick around for most of the upcoming week. We might just see some sneaky good pow skiing over the next few days.
The recent events at Snowbird ski area struck a familiar chord. For those who are unaware, a helicopter training there in February resulted in a crash landing of two helicopters just below the ski lift in Mineral Basin. Fortunately, everyone was ok despite the incident occurring so close to skiers/riders and ski area infrastructure. Monarch had a similar event back…
It’s been a busy month. Snow and guests. This is the time of year that really seems to move quickly. The weeks and days meld together with similar crowds and no change in our operations. We are running all lifts every day along with tubing ops and each guest service venue. Our peak parking strategies are in place for most…
