Our logging crew has started hauling away the beetle killed trees. This portion of the timber sale is being taken to a commercial firewood dealer in Poncha Springs. This is a much closer haul for the trucks than the commercial mill in Montrose that has been used in recent years. The Little Blue Project on US Highway 50 has also made westward travel much more difficult this summer.
We will soon be finishing up with thinning out the Southwest portion of the ski area. The CT/CDNST trail detour will remain in place at least until early next week. The tree islands adjacent to the Curecanti, Roundabout, Short Circuit, Romp, Middle Tango, Toddler, Sidewinder trails have all been treated. These areas look a lot more healthy and it should be some really nice gladed ski terrain!
