I got out at the end of the day after work to tour around the mountain. As suspected, our track-packing has set up nicely but we are definitely in need of additional snowfall before we can get into tilling any slopes on a regular basis. It looks like we received a few inches overnight and it is going to snow…
We are off to a good start after the weekend storm. Our Slope Maintenance crew has made progress track-packing several trails on just about every aspect on the mountain. The higher density snow from the storm is setting up nicely as a solid base. We received about an 1 1/2″ of water out of the storm. I got out today…
With the latest round of snow, we now start turning our efforts towards doing the things we need to do to open the mountain. The game now is to save what snow we have while prepping for more to come. Ahead of the storm, our patrol crew set up temporary snowfences around the mountain. These help to capture wind drifted…
Our Vehicle Maintenance crew has all our snowcats tracked up and ready to go. This incredible team of guys work extremely hard over the summer months conducting annual service and repairs to our fleet of machines. Not only does this include meticulously going through our eight snowcats, but they also conduct repairs and maintenance work on our front end loaders…
It looks like we may have some weather moving in this weekend and into early next week. I love looking at the weather models this time of year hoping to see that next storm on the horizon. The image below is from the CPC for precipitation chances between November 8th and 12th. Keep your fingers crossed.
Here is a look at Sleepy Hollow under a nearly full-moon last night. Happy Halloween.
Here are a few more images from the storm earlier this week. The forecast calls for a quiet weather week coming up with a better chance for stormy weather during the second week of November. Check out Joel’s forecast here…and keep on dancin’.
It wasn’t a lot of snow, but I saw it as the only chance to put skis on snow in October. We received around 6″ of snow although there was more in certain wind loaded areas. It was definitely more about the up than the down! I skinned around to take a look at the snow cover and evaluate if…
The State of Colorado will receive some much needed snow on Sunday and Monday. A sizable storm is moving in that will deliver anywhere from 5″ to 20″ (or more) of snow around the State. Hopefully this will help to slow the growth of the fires that have been raging in the west and northern portions of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains.…
Monarch Park is located just east of the ski area below the highway. In the summertime, it is a beautiful wetlands with streams, ponds and lush green vegetation. This area is supplied with runoff moisture from the ski area along with the top of the pass, Old Monarch and Monarch Ridge. During the winter, it is busy with snowmobiling, dog…
