I am fortunate to work with some very talented and incredible people in the Mountain Operations division at Monarch. While all staff members (and Monarch guests) had to rise to face new challenges this season, one department has been on the very tip of the spear helping to operate our ski area during a global pandemic. As a remote ski…
After last weekend’s powder storm, we have seen a few beautiful and sunny days here on the mountain. Things are looking great on the slopes after the recent storms and we have enjoyed a few warm spring days of skiing. It looks like a weather transition begins later today with more chances of snow on the way tonight and lasting…
Here is a look at what the most recent March storm was able to accomplish. Quite an improvement to Colorado’s water supply in just a few days!
What a storm! There was a lot of hype leading into this snow event for Colorado and it delivered in a big way. We have had over two feet of snow this week and with a bit more forecasted for tonight we will surpass 200″ for the season. Along with this increase to our snowpack, our operating season will now…
Ok Colorado…we are about ready to get hammered by an historic winter storm Xylia. The northern Front Range looks to take the brunt of it but there will be plenty to go around. Monarch is located in the bottom center of the High Resolution WRF weather model below and looks to be in the 15-20″ range through mid-day Monday. I…
There were some really amazing Cirrus Clouds rolling in today ahead of the weekend storm. A change is coming!
We recently conducted some drone footage of our glade skiing on Pano. Definitely gives a different perspective to our socially distant tree skiing!
It’s been a warm weekend. There are still some soft powder turns on the north aspects, but the south facing trails are quickly transforming to spring like conditions. After a cold and windy winter, these warm days with light winds actually feel pretty good. As long as they don’t stick around too long! Looks like we have a few more…
It’s been quite a week. Subzero temps last weekend with 60 mph winds. Warm, springlike weather earlier this week. Today delivered some intense bands of snow with 4-5″ falling by the time the lifts closed. The weekend looks to bring back warm & sunny weather. Wild.
Being perched on the Continental Divide provides a 360º look at the world around us. The view to the west seems to stretch on forever. This vantage point looks over the Gunnison River Basin and down to the San Juan Mountains. From here you can see a few more 14ers including San Luis Peak, Uncompahgre and Wetterhorn. Enjoy the bluebird…
