While the wind yesterday presented some operational challenges, it also set up some really nice conditions on several trails. Overnight weather brought strong winds out of the west and southwest (the windward side). This combination of snowfall and wind carried over the ridgeline depositing deep snow on the leeward slopes with a north to east aspect. On days like this, the reported snowfall at our study plot may seem low compared to what can be found on these leeward trails. So, watching the winds is almost as important as watching the snowfall.
