Logging Work

We plan to begin commercial logging work with Miller Timber Services on July 1st. This is the same crew that conducted harvesting work across the highway on Monarch Ridge last summer and fall. This initial work will be a portion of our efforts in the third year of the Monarch Pass Vegetation Management Project.

This project aims to remove dead standing trees that have been affected by the spruce beetle pandemic. These efforts will reduce the extent of the insect infestation, improve forest and watershed health, reduce fuel loading, protect infrastructure and provide for firefighter/public safety.

These ground based efforts this summer will target areas located in the SW portion of the ski area. Tree stands adjacent to the following ski trails are scheduled to be treated: Curecanti, Roundabout, Short Circuit, Romp, Middle Tango, Toddler and Sidewinder.

Some of this work will occur within close proximity to the CT/CDNST. The trail will detour off the backside of Monarch Mountain traveling along Old Monarch Pass road and the Old-Old Monarch Pass wagon road. Work will be conducted July 1-14.
